The Suburban Concert Band is composed of both professional and amateur musicians (ages 17-85) from West Allis, Wisconsin and the surrounding Greater Milwaukee area. The group was organized by conductor Howard Emerson in 1983. Direction was later handed to Henry Canitz with the goal of bringing quality concert music to the local community.
That tradition continues as the Concert Band is now under the direction of Ms. Kelly Schultz. Member musicians have branched out, frequently performing in affiliated smaller ensembles. The Suburban Jazz Band is a product of the diverse talents of our musicians. The Suburban Jazz Band is under the direction of Mr. Eric Skogg.
The Suburban Concert Band and Suburban Jazz Band meet weekly (September through May) to rehearse music for 8-10 concerts per year. Rehearsals for the Concert Band are on Thursday evenings, from 7:00 to 8:30 PM in the Band Room of Nathan Hale High School, 11601 W. Lincoln Ave., West Allis, Wisconsin. Jazz Band rehearsal immediately follows from 8:30 to 9:30 PM. The players donate all rehearsal and performance time.
